The gift giving season is coming and I suspect a number of lawyers will soon be sporting new iPads. I’m often asked by lawyers with a new iPad “What apps should I get?” While the best app for you depends a great deal on what you want to accomplish, there are some basic recommendations.
For the next few days weeks, I’ll be doing a series profiling the apps (and in a few cases, online services) that I recommend that all lawyers consider in order to turn a stock iPad into a very serviceable work rig. For many of the apps, I’ll note my personal favorite and a few alternatives as well. I’ll look at the following categories:
- File Storage and Access
- Writing
- Calculator
- PDF Annotation
- Presentations
- Microsoft Word and Excel Compatibility
- File Management and Use
- Remote Desktop Connection
First up, File Storage and Access. See you next time!

Dear Josh, what an excellent series. Thank you. I’ve reposted on FB and Twitter. If you come across an app that allowed footnoting, please let us know! Yours, Brad
